This happens when your shipping volume has grown beyond what you can manage with spot loads and one-off carrier calls. You're spending more time coordinating trucks than running your business. The loads that used to ship same-day now sit for days because you can't find available capacity, and your regular carriers are booked solid during peak seasons.

Every late shipment costs you money in expedited freight charges and unhappy customers. You can't plan production schedules when you don't know if this week's orders will actually ship this week. Other departments avoid promising delivery dates because they don't trust that logistics will hit the timeline.

Gateway Logistics takes over the entire shipping process from route planning through delivery confirmation. Gateway Logistics assigns one coordinator to your account who learns your shipping patterns and builds relationships with carriers who run your regular lanes. Gateway Logistics negotiates rates based on volume commitments and handles all the carrier vetting, load tracking, and exception management. Emergency freight and specialized equipment like flatbeds or refrigerated trailers get sourced through the same process.

Your warehouse moves product out on schedule and your customers get accurate delivery windows they can count on. You'll know exactly when each load will pick up and deliver before you promise dates to customers. Your production team can plan manufacturing runs around confirmed shipping capacity instead of hoping trucks will be available.

You're spending all day on the phone trying to find trucks for loads that should have moved yesterday. Every delay creates a ripple effect that pushes back the next shipment and the one after that. Your warehouse is backing up and customers are threatening to find other suppliers.

Common questions

hire logistics company or do it myself

You're spending too much time finding trucks and coordinating shipments. You're not sure if hiring a logistics company is worth the extra cost or if you should keep doing it yourself.

If you ship more than 5 loads per week, a logistics service usually saves money through better rates and less staff time. They handle carrier vetting, route planning, and tracking. Calculate your current cost per hour spent on shipping tasks.

how to choose logistics company

You need to hire a logistics company but you don't know how to pick a good one. There are dozens of options and they all sound similar. You're worried about picking the wrong partner.

Look for a company with real-time tracking technology, a dedicated account manager, and carrier vetting processes. Ask about their average transit times and what happens when shipments go wrong. Check references from companies similar to yours.

freight broker vs 3PL difference

You need shipping help but you're confused about the difference between freight brokers and 3PL companies. You don't know which service fits your business better.

Freight brokers handle individual shipments and find carriers. 3PLs manage your entire logistics operation including warehousing, inventory, and shipping strategy. Choose brokers for transactional shipping, 3PLs for comprehensive supply chain management.

how long to set up logistics service

You need better shipping management but you're worried about disrupting your current operations. You don't know how long it takes to switch to a logistics company or if there will be delays.

Most logistics companies can start handling shipments within 1-2 weeks after setup. The transition involves sharing your shipping data, setting up tracking systems, and introducing you to your account team. Start the process before your busy season.
